Pisa - Italy

We had been told by many people that all that is required to see the Leaning Tower of Pisa is few hours during the day before continuing on via train or bus, but we decided to spend the morning in Florence and didn’t get to Pisa until mid-afternoon. The accommodation seemed cheap so we decided to spend a night before continuing on. It would have been quite possible to keep going but we stayed in a nice hotel right near the tower for very cheap and had an excellent dinner with the tower in the background, and more importantly a good sleep in a bed after a week of being in tents!

We ended up visiting the tower at about 6pm which was perhaps the perfect time. The sun was behind us so we got some great photos and it wasn’t as busy as expected. We of course managed to get the classic leaning tower photos as below and quite enjoyed it. Perhaps the only annoying part is inconsiderate people who just decide to stand in front of you when you are obviously trying to take a photo!

The only difficulty we had was actually getting from the train station to our hotel. We spent about an hour on the bus only to end up back at the train station after missing our stop! In the end we grabbed lunch back at the station and then took a $6 taxi to near the tower… which was so much easier and not much more expensive than the bus.

The next morning we headed north-west on the train to get to our next destination called Deiva Marina which is at the edge of the Cinque Terre world heritage area where.
